Jennifer Garner is a West Virginia native who was born in Houston on the 17th of April, 1972. Her dad, William John Garner, was a chemical engineer at Union Carbide. Her mother Patricia Ann taught at a local university. In order to follow in the footsteps of her father, she graduated with an engineering degree in chemical science. So that she could fulfill her desire to be an actress, she moved to New York. She worked as a chef in a New York restaurant and appeared in Broadway productions. In the TV series "Felicity," she had one brief appearance. (It was on this show that she became acquainted with the man she married, Scott Foley. Garner made her debut in Alias which is an action-thriller. Her first major part was in the acclaimed romantic comedy 13 Going on 30. She played a teenager trapped inside a 30plus year old's body. Garner chose Gary Winick, who directed the movie. Both Winick and Garner continued to work together in pursuing other projects even after the death of Winick. Garner was awarded the title the artist ambassador in 2009 by Save the Children U.S.A. In addition to promoting early education, literacy, and nutrition on a at the national level, his role is also to promote national literacy. In 2014, Garner has been a member of the board of trustees of this group, promoting early learning for children. In her role as an ambassador, Garner visits often with families who participate in Early Steps to School Success the program which trains parents on how to help young children to learn.
